On computer-delivered Writing the count is printed for you. On paper it is not — you estimate. The rule does not change: Task 2 needs at least 250 words. 260–290 is a practical range on either mode. If you booked paper, practise a full handwritten essay and learn your line length (words per line × lines). Check the estimate once when you finish the conclusion, not after every sentence. If you booked computer, type the essay; a handwritten count will not match the on-screen number. Do not assume a laptop draft trains paper length. Practice IELTS is a computer Writing and Reading tool. It is not the official familiarisation test, not a booking page, and not Listening or Speaking.
