How many linking words is too many — or too few — in IELTS Task 2?

Coherence and Cohesion is not a count of linking words. Too many — firstly, moreover, furthermore, on the other hand in every sentence — turns the essay into a labelled list. Too few — no “because,” no “however,” no precise noun to point back — leaves the reader to guess the join. Use a linker when the logic changes or when you explain a cause. Skip it when the next sentence is still the same idea. A topic sentence that names the job, then two or three explaining sentences, usually needs one or two joins, not eight. Do not add “in addition” to hide a fourth thin point. We do not promise a band from fewer or more linkers. Practice IELTS marks Coherence and Cohesion as a practice estimate, not an official band.
