Sentence completion asks you to finish a sentence with words from the passage, usually inside a word limit printed on the question (ONE WORD, TWO WORDS, and so on). Copy the word that fits grammatically; do not add “the” if the gap already has an article, and do not change a plural or a verb form unless the completed sentence still matches the text. Your own synonym is a wrong answer even if the meaning is close. Read the sentence with the gap first, then find the sentence in the passage that could fill it.
