Task 2 needs at least 250 words. Under that, Task Response usually drops because the answer is incomplete — a missing conclusion or a body that stops mid-idea. 260–290 is a practical range. Going well past 320 is a different error: a third thin point, a new idea in the conclusion, or a last paragraph that never gets a grammar check. Long is not a higher band. Do not pad with repeated topic sentences or a memorised “band 9” filler. If the clock is gone at 400 words, Coherence and grammar usually fall with it. Plan 5, write 30, check 5.
